Add-on silent action?
on: November 15, 2007, 07:15:01 AM
I just saw the silent piano thread and want to ask if there is an add-on silent system that I can install to my regular grand piano?

If so, how realistic does the action and the sound feel? Is the system removable - like you can turn a switch to totally restore the original action? Does the installation hurt the piano?

Much appreciated!!!!

a few months ago ive visited the bechstein piano center in berlin. Its quite huge they have two floors. One with the grands and with regular pianos. That day, it was saturday and i couldnt resist seeing the huge grand pianos. There was also one silent grand piano.
The technician explained to me that silent systems affect the touch and the sound of a grand pianos , whereas in normal pianos it has none.

But according to pianowolfi silent systems hurt the action of normal pianos aswell. So i dont know if my source of knowledge can be trusted

I will talk with my piano technician friend. He has some recommendations on this. As soon as I know more I will come back to it.

how much would such a system cost? I would rather buy a Boston upright and add a silent system instead of buying a Yamaha silent piano.
