Potty Humor is getting on my erm......nerves.
on: November 26, 2007, 07:28:46 AM
This forum is becoming some what of a Jerry Springer freak show with one stupid, disturbed and irksome topic after the next.

I'd appreciate an end to it one way or another.

Anyone else agree?

Or perhaps a section should be started called "the anything that refers to boobies, body parts, rest rooms and sexuality"

Yes, leonidas has made it a point to start one such thread every few days since he rejoined with his new account name after his ban.

I for one do not like these offensive threads, I think it is an embarrassment and a discredit to the forum.

Do not read or reply to something you don't like.

Just like TV, if it ain't illegal, you can't complain, just change the channel.

If the ratings are low, the show will be cancelled...

This is a rather astonishingly perceptive comment.

So long as something isn't blatantly infringing the forum's rules, there is really nothing to complain about.

Something that truly doesn't have value (to anyone) will be ignored. Vulgarities often receive a lot of attention. The best way to limit obscenities without banning them is to ignore them.

If things merely perceived as vulgar or crude start getting banned, then content that most would deem legitimate will start getting banned.  It's a slippery slope that if pursued will ultimately end in all but the most innocuous debate being stifled. That is not what any serious thinking person wants.

The recent removal of the "Moonfright Sonata" thread is a case in point. If people can make threads that are unintentionally ridiculous, what in the rules stipulates against creating threads that are intentionally ridiculous?

Vote with your cursor; not with the force of punishment.

Peace out.

The forum rules explicitly state that no sexual content is to be posted.  The threads I mentioned "blatantly infringe the rules."

In that case, then I would support the decision to have them removed!

People who join this forum are essentially signing a contract to obey the rules in exchange for using the servers.

In the case of things like satire being removed, I think we can agree that that is stepping over the line.
