What would make you a better person ?
on: November 27, 2007, 03:47:13 PM
Just curious what you think... you know, it's getting to be winter; *self-reflection time*

I don't know what would make me a better person, honestly, since I am so perfect already  ;D :D... okay, I just had to say it.  But, I think it's so tempting to think that way, subtley anyway.  Yes, I have to express more opinion and thought on this subject and say that with the idea that "anything goes" ... "everyone is perfect and acceptable just as they are" yadda yadda, which is often prevelent these days in "modern thought" ... well, how do we progress as individuals and as a race ?  Yes.

I was walking on a dirt road last weekend, just quietly in the woods, probably I was having some kind of music in me, but anyway, I just asked myself this question.  I don't think I am honest enough to give myself an answer yet.  So, along those lines, perhaps I could progress in my life if I could be more honest with myself.  I don't even really know for sure what that actually means.

I could be more patient, I could be more kind, I could be more brave ... I could be more of a lot of things.... but, would it really improve my being ?  And, would that really make a difference to the world ?  Something just doesn't "add up" correctly.

Always this struggle for perfection...

Let's be more tolerant with ourselves and with others  :)

We are not that important.

Oh, no, you've got that all wrong, sorry.  I discarded the struggle for perfection awhile ago (hee hee), as a means of making myself better  ;D.  Anyway, c'mon, you've got to bring out more than that if you would like me to give up already.

Anyway, I don't want to be perfect, I want to be better or ... more efficient in kicking butt at least :D.

And besides, sometimes the desire to be better is the most tolerant we can actually be with ourselves and with others  ;).

BTW, I find it a little comical that this thread is probably the closest we will ever come to having a thread whose number of views matches the number of posts ... especially considering the fact that most of the views are probably my own ... hee hee (hee hee.. I guess that most of the posts are actually my own as well ... LOL).

I guess it's not a particularly fetching topic title  ;D.

Yes, something like "why are people so stupid and is there a way to make them more intelligent" would propably attract much more interest.

But we can't change the others, we only can change ourselves. It so tragic, because we ourselves are almost perfect and the others are so imperfect  ;D

Self-improvement is for insecure losers and high-achieving people-pleasers.

Not that I'm not either one.

When I initially read your post I thought to myself "I didn't know that thalbergmad was gay!!!???", but then I remembered the meaning of 'fags' in British English.

To make yourself a better person, try finding happiness (if not found already). Once you are happy and content with yourself and life, there will be no room or need for "self-improvement."

Modesty. But that's very hard when you're perfect already.

I'd like to be able to stop caring so much about people who don't care so much for me. Maybe it wouldn't make me a "better" person per se, but it sure would be a load off.

Perhaps it makes me a better person if I love somebody not so much because of what he/she means to me but because I want to just give him/her something with my love. Something he/she needs.

More self-esteem to stand up for myself and others. Inside I am still the little 'please don't bully me' girl, so I aviod conflict of all kinds where possible.

Being a teenager is tough like that. I'm 25 now, and still have a few hang ups left from school that I'm trying to get rid of. Don't worry though. People will start to appreciate you eventually. Just takes a while for them to grow up.

As for me. I could be less lazy. I have so many friends from both Universities I attended and from other places that I'm losing contact with. I just don't find the time for it, even though they're great people.  :(

I think the only way to NOT improve yourself would be to not learn from life experiences.

To me life is a continual growth, and so I consider it my personal duty to always imagine things can be better, so I'm never totally content.  If I were completely contented, what would be my motivation to get out of bed?

I know some people who have the amazing ability to ignore their troubles.  Convincing themselves that they're happy while problems stack up.  Making learning and growth difficult, it becomes a matter of crisis.
