Which piece is more difficult?
on: November 27, 2007, 10:10:44 PM
I'm currently learning the first movement of Beethoven's Sonatina in D. It's rather challenging for me, but it's not killing me. Another piece I like is the first movement of Bach's Italian Concerto, which I would like to play as well.

I know the Italian Concerto is supposed to be hader, but how much harder? If I can play the sonatina, would the concerto be way out of my reach?

(NOTE: I am only talking about the first movements. The second movement of Sonatina in D is a theme and varistions, with some variations far above my level. And as for the Italian Concerto, I think it would be a bit much to try and learn the whole thing, plus the first movement is my favorite.)

I am 14 years old and have been playing for 8 years (although I'm a fairly slow learner, so I'm behind the average levels...)
Working on:
Beethoven - Waldstein Sonata
Bach - C minor WTC I
Liszt - Liebestraume no. 3
Chopin - etude 25-12

sonatina in d major? op what? anyway i think the italian concerto should be harder. i've tired my hands out every single day since the beginning of this month and i'm still unable to play it satisfactorily.

I would learn some of the Italian Concerto (the more difficult of the two) as a pre-requisite for some of the easier Beethoven Sonatas (like the G major).

and btw i guess i'm not alone after all. i'm also 14 and i am currently trying a lot of pieces i shouldn't be playing like beethoven's late sonatas: the 21st,23rd,26th,28th,30th,31st and the last one. oh yeah and including the moonlight, pathetique, the tempest but i don't really play this 3 often.
