Basic how-to question about text entry
on: November 29, 2007, 08:43:40 PM
1) How do you add a motto to your name on this forum?
2) How do you add umlauts and other special characters?
Durch alle Töne tönet
Im bunten Erdentraum
Ein leiser Ton gezogen
Für den, der heimlich lauschet.

Do you mean your signature? If so, you do that in your profile.

2) How do you add umlauts and other special characters?

What is an umlaut?
Thank you and Goodnight.

What is an umlaut?

It is the pair of dots above a vowel, e.g. Motörhead.
(ALT-148 for the ö)

"These characters are typically entered by holding down the ALT key, and typing the DECIMAL value of the character on the NUMERIC key pad"

A list of the special characters.

Or, if you use a Mac, "ALT-U" followed by the letter above which you would like the umlaut to appear.

e.g.,
ä ë ï ö ü

Best,
Michael

Thanks all. I'm using a PC. By motto, I meant that little quote at the bottom of your thread entries.

Yes, that's your signature.

Click on your name in this thread, this will bring up your profile, then click on "forum profile information".
Near the bottom there is a box that says "signature". Write your motto in there and thats it.

If you change it after that, it will also change in all you previous posts.
Thank you and Goodnight.

Apple always seems to have better logic when designing their shortcuts.

I digress - still using PC.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
