I realize this piece is probably still under copyright, but I am just inquiring if anyone knew a place that sold the score for Griffes - Symphonische Phantasie for Two Pianos. I really want to perform it, but I can't find any place that sells it.

Has anyone seen it?

Not under copyright old chap and there is a copy in the New York public library.

Now all we got to do is to find a friendly yank in here and get them to copy it.

Indeed my Griffes folder is lacking this piece.

Thanks for the reply Thal.

I've never worked with manuscript materials before, so I'm not really sure how it works. I found the database entry of the manuscript from the Charles Griffes Collection at the NYPL:

https://catnyp.nypl.org/search?/cJPB+84-1+no.+86+%5BScore%5D/cjpb+++++84++++++1+no+++++86+%5Bscore%5D/-3%2C-1%2C0%2CE/frameset&FF=cjpb+++++84++++++1+no+++++86+[score]&1%2C1%2C

It looks like there is a manuscript score and a microfilm reproduction. The NYPL probably doesn't loan out these materials, but would they make copies of them?

Because it has never been published and the manuscript is from 1910, there would be no copyright restrictions on it?

Has anyone ever dealt with copying materials from the NYPL?

On a side note, there are some really great works from Griffes that I've been listening to: in addition to the Symphonische Phantasie arr. for Two Pianos, Griffes wrote a transcription of Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel Overture for Two Pianos, not to mention his solo piano works.

If it is on microfilm, it is easy for them to run out a copy.

Never dealt with this particular library before, but had a lot of copies from microfilm from other libraries. They might even e mail it to you to save postage.

Most libraries are very helpful, but sometimes charge what may seem to be an excessive amount.

I suggest you e mail them.
