Chopsticks
on: December 05, 2007, 07:26:56 AM
Not the piano ditty.

But the Japanese eating utensils.

I went for sushi yesterday and the waiter looked at me like a dummy as i tried(ptobably like a dummy) to pick up my cali roll with my sticks.

I kept trying but then just used my fingers as usual:P

I took a pair of sticks home and youtubed "how to us chopsticks"

Then i practiced for a few hours at work. At red lights as well when driving.

How are your chop stick skiils?

'at red lights as well, while driving...'  Gilad, most of your messages are so moderate - but this one strikes me as uncharacteristic of this moderate tactic and bordering on fanatic.  (I read too many of Alistair's messages and am subliminally affected).  What if you had an accident and were skewered?  I think you should put those chopsticks away when you're driving.

Chopsticks should be a method for dieting.  The 'Chopstick diet.'  You eat one or two grains of rice and don't worry about the pile that is left.  Unless...unless you use them as shovels when noone is looking.  I like eating things with regular utensils - but if I had to -i would use chopsticks.  Next time we order chinese I'll attempt the chopsticks again.  I was never bad - but can't eat rice with them.

And to think, I get upset when I see people using their cell phones in their cars ::)

I'm probably better with chopsticks than spoon, forks and knives and can pretty much eat anything with them except those things that must be cut(tough things like steak). Of course I'm asian so.....

Im sure in japan there's lots of crazy japanese chopstick wielding samuras driving to work or what not eating chop suey off their lap with chopsticks. That would actually be quite scary. Forks and spoons are definitely a better option for commuter meals. Altough not quite as challenging as the old two sticks.

And just btw, how do japanese people drink soup? Im guessing from the bowl.

I envy you ilikepie.

I actually really like beef chop suey. I must try eating that with chopsticks. although a fork is real easy. you just stab, twirl and shovel.

Godly at it. I can pick up peanuts with BOTH left and right hand.
I can also use me left hand to eat while getting food with right hand.

Those two sticks silly!

Ok you got me. I'm an atrocious speller. But that's because I now type with my chp sticks.

somewhat off-topic but, I'm sometimes too lazy to switch between chopsticks and spoons that I just eat desserts like ice cream with chopsticks. Its not that hard really, and more practical for me. You don't have to put them down to drink water and they tend to make less noise when putting them on plates. Much more sanitary too if they're disposable if you're not sure of the cleanliness of the food place's utensils.

I always use chop-sticks in a Chinese.

I have been to places where they look at you strange if you ask for them.  :-X

I don't advise the driving bit though.  :o

It's hard enough trying to put my lip-stick on while at 70 mph.  ;D
Thank you and Goodnight.

Thats pretty skilfull. icecream with a fork seems bad enough to me.

What would you know about fanaticism, Susan?...

(I read too many of Alistair's messages and am subliminally affected).
I don't know for certain how many would be too many (one, probably), but if you were truly "subliminally" affected, how would you know?

What if you had an accident and were skewered?  I think you should put those chopsticks away when you're driving.

Well, I've never tried eating chopsticks so I can't say, but I do agree that their effectiveness as a driving aid is not great...

Best,

I am not bad at using chopsticks, but I'm not great either. I can eat things in chunks, but not rice, and certainly not ice cream.

I'm pretty good at them, I think.  I can pick up pretty much anything, to include slippery noodles, grains of rice, etc.  But my hand can get tired, which makes me think I'm not using them properly... or else just not used to them.  I don't use them often enough.

As a resident of China my chopstick skills have become pretty mean.
I have a somewhat unorthodox style, but whatever puts food on the table (hmm... wrong choice of words...)
