Chopin or Beethoven

In my opinion, Chopin was the best when It came to the piano.  But I want to see what others think.

in my opinion, neither!! I love the works of both composers just as much. They are special and unique in their own way.

In terms of musical ideas, I think Beethoven was better; however, Chopin, in my opinion, had much more original piano figurations - more imagination in terms of the mechanism, per se. So, I suppose my answer depends on what you mean by 'best'.

In terms of sheer composition, I don't think Chopin can even compete with Beethoven (then again, only J.S. Bach can) - and Chopin is wonderful...gives you an idea of Beethoven's stature.

I have loved Beethoven for years. 

I'm only starting to really listen to Chopin, and I do like it. 

But, sorry, Beethoven for me.

These are my two favorite composers, but for two different reasons. Beethoven was an a master of form on a large scale. Chopin was best in his miniatures. They completely contrast in this aspect.

Pianistically, I feel that Chopin in second to none.

Depending on what we are talking about when we say "when it comes to the Piano" I would say that In term of composition Chopin is the Greater (not that I'm biased ) However I love Beethovens Piano Sonatas and concertos but besides these he didn't write much that does much for me. I realize thats a lot but Chopin on the other hand wrote toooooooonnnnnnnnnneeeeeeesssssss more stuff. At just as high or higher quality. I don't quite see Beethoven as the poet that Chopin was. If we are talking playing I'd have to go with Chopin again.

Can't compare 'em.  Its apples/oranges and I love them both.  For that reason I didn't vote in the survey.

Hmmm...the English teacher in me says since there are only two to compare there can be no "best," only a "better." The problem is that such a comparison is not really possible. One can form subjective opinions, but that's usually dependent upon a personal preference.

Both are wonderful composers, but I never heard either of them play so can't judge that.

I don't know about hearing them play, but my favourite out of them to play myself, is Chopin.

Probably because I can actually play more of his stuff, or that I have played more. Also it is more the style of music that I love. I.E. pretty pieces.

I'm not saying that Beethoven didn't write pretty pieces, I just havn't heard any if he did.
