just wondering
on: December 21, 2007, 12:38:53 AM
in some pieces that I read, I noticed that the notes written there are not really the ones to press, like a C that is actually a C-Sharp (black key) and the whatnot. any ideas?

Are you checking the key signature?

Mcgill you're a genius! I was wondering what this could possibly mean.

Not just the key signature, but remember also that accidentals carry over to the next bar line unless canceled by a natural sign. I'm always getting that wrong myself (actually what I really do the most often when sight reading is plunge right in without looking at the key signature. Somewhere around the second page I realize "Oh, it's in MINOR!!!").

Many times I've sight read a piece in Major to find the key sig is minor. Haha.
Maybe also tied notes with accidentals. Some engravers don't repeat the accidental on the tied notes.
