That guy is a pretty sick pianist. His recording of Ligeti's "devil's staircase" almost rivals Aimard's. Haven't heard his variations yet.

Is the ultimate difficulty in Devil's Staircase the level of finger dexterity or just wrapping your mind around such a complex system?

Look at the sheets and see for yourself. Your guess is as good as mine, but I would imagine that it is both. Also, remember that Ligeti was not a pianist, so there are probably many pianistic difficulties aside from the obvious.

The correct title for the Hamelin piece is The Ringtone Waltz.

i looked up both "The Ringtone Waltz" and "Valse Irritation" on some sites and google... all i could find were youtube videos of Hamelin playing it...  :-\
