What'd you score?

Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, or the Nativity of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, what gifts did you score for the holidays?

I am getting a bow (of the archery type) and hopefully some arrows, fingertab, armguard, and quiver.

I havn't got them yet, because the bow will be secondhand and we havn't found a suitable one.

I am sure you already know, but you have to be very careful when buying a bow and even more so if it is 2nd hand. As much care should go into buying a bow as buying clothes, since it is very important that you find one that is a perfect fit and matches your physical abilities.

Infact, i would suggest that you don't touch a 2nd hand bow and that you go to a specialist to find the most suitable product. Shooting a bow of the wrong set up is as uncomfortable as riding a bike of the wrong size, but slightly more dangerous.

End of lecture and happy shooting.

I know, I wont be buying a second hand one unless it is suitable. I would prefer a new one, but we don't have the money at the moment. I have also only been doing archery for about 9 months, so I am more concerned with getting something good so that i don't have to use the club's bows, rather than getting something really special.

One of these days I will get myself an after school job and slowly save up for something good.

Also at the moment I am looking for a bow of about 25lbs draw weight, recurve, and in good condition. I am not bothered about much else, though takedown would be good.

I use an English Longbow. It could kill a charging French Knight at 60 yards, but i have not been able to put this to the test.

Fair enough, at the moment I use a crappy recurve, 22lbs.

I havn't tried longbow, but I tried compound, and it was alright...

I wish I got nothing.  I hate to be an ingrate, but I'm usually not too crazy 'bout the gifts people get me, I'd rather they didn't spend their money...  Visiting the family is good enough.  and the cabbage rolls, those're good too ;D

Some good cloths, a DVD of the Britten War Requiem's American premiere (Leinsdorf/BSO at Tanglewood, 1963+++:-), Glenn Beck's, "An Inconvenient Book," a couple gift certificates, and some chocolate did I receive on the day the world shuts down!

All my Christmas presents were bought my myself. I'd rather just ask my parents to buy me stuff than them getting me something I wouldn't like. I'm getting myself a ton of CDs(on my parents of course) for a Christmas present. I also bought myself an external hard drive. Not a bad haul if I say so myself.
That's the price you pay for being moderate in everything.  See, if I were you, my name would be Ilovepie.  But that's just me.

I tend to do the same thing with my immediate family.  I ask them not to surprise me with anything, so I don't end up getting something I'll never use.   We would go shopping for our presents together.  I have no problem waiting for boxing week, to save a few $ for my present.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

I got a woolly hat from a very dear friend who must have psychically intuited that I lost one in Goldsmiths College only a couple of weeks ago. And some chocolates from a singer who I ended up being rather short with on account of her apparently terminal inability to decide what she wants in certain musical matters.... I only felt very slightly guilty, to be honest. Oh, and from a friend with a wonderfully bizarre sense of humour, a rather frightening-looking tropical fruit that I haven't yet got round to investigating - if I suddenly stop contributing here it will be because it was after all not suitable for human consumption. It sure as hell doesn't look as if it is.

Ravels (unposthumous) violin sonata, the four-hands version of Sacre, and Milhauds Ronsard songs. A bunch of books, among them a new biography of Richter which i'm looking forward to reading.
