ego of pianists
on: January 01, 2008, 10:40:10 PM
What's the most ''funny'' or weard  thing that a pianist did during concert?
I heard that Ivo Pogorelic was master in that erea,so,he ,,read''  from paper Beetowen sonatas on concert, carring no shoes, and the man that helped him with pages played some bas notes, and Ivo was just like-''pres bflat please,e,c...
And that on the Chopin competition Martha Argerich stod up and said-you can't play Chopin sonata with NO peda;l,than Ivo rised from piano and said...-I'm the one who should give YOU lessons for piano...
That's just hudge EGPO,and madness,any other examples?> :D

Performers, be they instrumentalists, actors... have egos that have to be constantly kept under control. Everyone has moments where they get carried away or over-confident. It's no big deal. In the long run, I think that time and experience are usually good tutors with respect to teaching the value of humility.

You CAN learn to play the piano and compose in a fun and effective way.

Are you sure about what you are advancing on Pogorelich ... that chat with Argerich does not look real to me : Ivo was kicked of the competition and Martha quit the jury because they did so, and I never heard about anybody stopping him play ...

Friedrich Gulda once played a recital stark naked, but I don't know enough about him to know whether it was because he had a big ego, or because he was just unbalanced, or because it was a statement of some sort, or simply because it was the 1960s.
Instrumentalists are all wannabe singers. Discuss.

Toward the Flame: Boris Petrushansky’s Journey Through Scriabin’s Universe

Alexander Scriabin died in April 1915, at forty-three, of a fever that took him within a week — leaving his great mystical project unfinished. He left behind a piano language no one had spoken before, one that a century later still questions every interpreter who approaches it. Boris Petrushansky has spent a lifetime preparing his answer. In a new album and an extended conversation with Piano Street, he traces Scriabin’s path from the early Preludes to the final, shattering Op. 74. Read more
