Rep suggestion: Classical Sonata
on: January 04, 2008, 01:05:21 AM
My teacher wants me to work on a classical sonata:  something "crisp, energetic, articulate."  He also said no Beethoven.  The Haydn last 3 sonatas are also out.  Any suggestions?  Mozart?  Other Haydn?  Are there Clementi sonatas I should check out?

Thanks for suggestions.

Mozart D Major, the last, is very energetic, but really hard.  Easier might be the B-flat, K333 (I think).

Haydn Sonata in F Major, HBK XVI: 23 offers some fine display and technical work without being overly difficult.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

That's the price you pay for being moderate in everything.  See, if I were you, my name would be Ilovepie.  But that's just me.

HAHA, there must be a hundred ways of spelling that composer. I usually use Woelfl.

If you are referring to the Op25 Sonata, I can only agree. The "Allegro Molto" movement is fantastic and one of the few pieces i have kept in my miserly repetoire.

This is great music.

Are sheets for this sonata available?  I'd love to take a look at it.  Thanks, sir, for any help in this direction.

Thanks for the downloads, Thal.  Read through the sonata and it's a breath of fresh air.
