Auditions in a month, is it too late?
on: January 08, 2008, 11:34:25 PM
I've got everything almost ready. I still have to polish a Chopin etude that's been in the closet for two years. It's only 6 pages long. I have to learn it only for one of my 6 graduate auditions (Michigan.) You think it's possible to relearn a virtuosic etude in less than a month? Keep in mind that I'm still polishing my other audition pieces and learning the rest of my senior recital (approximately 1.5 hours of music total.)
Besides practice slowly, what other tips would you have for speed polishing?

that's really late, is'nt it, to start prep for auditions.

I don't know, by all means if you think you can do it then go for it.

If you're going to be good enough for a career as a solo pianist you're good enough to learn an etude in 6 weeks.
Instrumentalists are all wannabe singers. Discuss.

I'd argue that you should have a piece solidly memorized and performance ready 3 months in advance.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)
