Did you ever considering going to psychotherapy?
on: January 10, 2008, 02:17:40 AM
Just a question that I was wondering. It's not about something in particular or about piano of course ! I was just asking if you ever went to therapy or thought of doing so? and if you did, would you tell other people that you are doing psychotherapy?

I couldn't sleep well for 18 months.  The insomnia was killing me--I couldn't remember anything or pay attention to anything.  I made an appointment with a psychologist.  He helped me see what was causing the sleeplessness and eliminate that from my life.

I freely told people how I overcame the insomnia.  But I was shocked at some of the negative reactions--there is something of a stigma about it, especially among the older generation.

Personally I think it's stupid to judge people for that.  Many people in my situation would have turned to drugs or alcohol, but instead I sought the help of a trained professional.  I think that was the smartest choice.  I respect people who seek counsel, because it shows they're really serious about solving their problem, while most other people would just cover it up or deal with it through addictions.

Agreed. BTW can I ask you what was the cause of the Insomnia?

I am always seeing a shrink, because i am slightly spasticated.

£40 an hour she charges, which is not bad.

And the talking helps against the spastication...?   ^_^

Have done in the past, twice when i was 18, a few more times when 20, and last year i hope was my last appointment at harley street clinic. My problem has been post traumatic stress disorder, the person i spoke with last was most helpful, partly because i could express myself a lot better, also because she  also had first hand experience with war,but most importantly she used a method first established in America to reprogram the brain and sort out all sorts of unspoken events.
No i would not go=round telling people unless am asked, but these days it is so common and normal,it a little like buying pain killers from a pharamcy, think of all those chat shows.

LOL you know the piano can make life worth living but it wont sort personal issues.

The cause of the insomnia was a horrible relationship.  It was destroying my life and for some reason I could not see it.  It took the psychologist about five minutes to see what was wrong, and his counsel was simply to end that relationship.  There was a lot to work through since I don't like to just end relationships permanently (that seems harsh),  but in the end I followed his advice and things started to turn around from there.  He was a hundred percent correct.

If the therapy has this effect, if it gives you a better self-confidence, it's a really good thing.

It is, and counselling has done me the world of good. I used to be frustrated that i could not solve my own problems and looked at any kind of assistance as a weakness.

Admitting you have a problem is half way to solving it.

Woops. I havent smoked for 4 months which is great. My bedroom is a huge mess cause i was tidying it earlier, amazing how much mess accumulates in year. I have univeristy registration in the morning. and a very active mind! It goes on and on like that in my head for days sometimes! Drives me up the *** wall. Anyway. I'm convinced that love is a cure, we all want to be loved. I need to find a special lady. Then ill be on cloud nine, and not so much with my head in the clouds.

I think a certain member by the username of Mozartian needs to go to psychotherapy for obvious reasons.

Bahahahahahaha!!!

She doesn't come here anymore in case you missed it.  She stormed off in a huff quite some time ago.  I do miss her dark green letters in the chat room though.

She just come back for one quick peek. I was talking to her on instant messenger when she randomly decided to pop in. It's why I mentioned her username. I tried to lure her to this thread.
