This could be the extreme...
on: January 10, 2008, 07:57:18 AM
Look at https://www.humanupgrades.com/

For example, look at the 6th finger upgrade! Imagine what Liszt could have done with it.  :o

This looks very serious if you ask me, with the webpage and doctors and all, but it seems unreal.. We're becoming Borgs!!!!! ;D

Can anyone on this forum tell if any of these pictures are fake?

Triton.

haven't you guys played the game Deux Ex?  8)

i am wondering about the possibilities of 12 fingers...

we would need a new born hanon to replace the old one!  ;D
and stravinsky's the five fingers would be some picture from an older time...
the hand span will also change. let's say five fingers cover a 10th easily, then six fingers should play at least a 12th. cool!

That web page was sort of cool but sort of nauseating.

Like triton, I too am curious if it is real or a joke, and if it is real, will I ever be out on a date and discover the "simpletooth" sitting across from me at dinner?

I wonder if anyone would ever really do one of those surgeries.

Sure it might be cool, but I think people in general are afraid of being freaks.

According to an old Edition of the Guiness book of records, the record for the most amount of fingers is 14 (that is both hands). No indication was given if the person concerned was a pianist.

I remember many years ago a company here in the UK offered a free calculator to anybody who had 6 fingers. They eventually removed the offer as it was costing them a fortune. 6 fingers do not appear to be particularly rare.

My crazy boyfriend is seriously contemplating cutting the small webs in between his fingers off, to enable his fingers to span more notes.

I think he is absolutely insane, and no matter how much I love piano, a big hand isn't necessary.

Not to mention that he isn't a surgeon.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

I remember a documentary on the TV about Fats Waller and it was claimed that several pianists did this.

To play stride piano you really need to play a comfortable 10th, which Fats could, but not all pianists could. Some even attached an extension to their little finger.

Sounds pretty drastic to me.

This reminds me of that guy who got surgery to make his fingers smaller all so he could use the iPhone.
