Palestrina transcriptions?
on: January 10, 2008, 03:26:44 PM
I love the vocal polyphony of Palestrina. Do you know any transcriptions? I'm aware of (but haven't seen) one by Liszt (in Harmonies poetiques et religieuses) and one by Godowsky.

In particular, I'd be interested in the Missa Papae Marcelli. Does anyone have an opinion if this comes out well on piano? If there are no transcriptions, has anyone played directly from the vocal sheets?

The Liszt is in the collection here, but i can post the Godowsky.

The only other transcription i have is by Otto Singer which came from a fellow collector.

I don't think the music translates well. If it did, their would be more transcriptions i guess.

What exactly did he transcribe?

Probably you're right...  :(
Still, I'll probably give it a brief try from the vocal score.

I have made an error, it was a transcription of Palestrina by Pfitzner.
