Martha Argerich and NY Philharmonic
on: April 21, 2004, 06:42:25 AM
Anyone else hear about this? I did a search on the forums, got nothing. I live really close, so I just may be able to see this. But, where to get the money... Also, I've heard a lot that she frequently cancels her concerts. Think it will happen with this one?

Don't hold your breath. She cancelled in SF last weekend. Was supposed to play the Schumann there, as well.

Why does she cancel so often?  Hmoll, you said in San Francisco?  You mean with MTT and the SFSymphony?  I would have been there if I knew about it.  But she cancelled.... :P

She canceled the SF concerts because she has bronchitis and is unable to travel...

She has Cancer. It takes a lot out of her, and unfortunately she needs to cancel some engagements.
I wish her the best.

In my opinion, she "toggles" back and forth between the same pieces. She needs to expand her concerti repertoire, I mean how many times has she played the Schumann concerto? 10+ years? The only thing that seems to change progressively in her performances is the speed and unique (but very sexy) arm movements. Yes! She is a great pianist, but her repertoire is too limited for her abilities.
