if the teacher is a woman, and if that woman is valentina lisitsa that approach would fail miserably...in my case i would develop several problems to get constantly smacked...  ;D

seriously i did notice that my posture at the piano is very related to my posture while sitted in general (computer, class, watching tv). so start wondering about how do you sit communist.

You should try asking Lenin, he knew what was best for everyone didn't he?

Well, except for those 60 million people that had to be killed for his utopia to fail.

When you start playing, begin by looking at the ceiling, and then as your head starts to drift it will end up in the right place.

What you describe is a syndrome of tension.  In other words, one or some other part of your body is tensing unnecessarily.  It could be your abdominal muscles and lower back muscles co-contracting.  Or it could be your shoulders rotating back and you compensate by "drifting to the piano".

What exactly do you mean by "drifting to the piano"?  It seems this can be interpreted in different ways.

To get back on topic: this is an issue of posture, and what I would do in this situation is exercises for the back and neck to strengthen them, and I'd try to work on keeping proper posture at all times while sitting.

That's ridiculous. Making a pianist maintain a specific posture is just as bad as making a pianist hold his wrist in a specific way.

You do whatever it takes to produce the best playing. If you need to bend over the piano in a shitty posture, so be it.

There is nothing wrong with it. And if anything you should focus on your playing and not your posture.

By the way a 2x4 is a wooden piece of wood that it appx 1.5 inches by 3 inches.

now that I think of it, (and after some of the comments alluding to the brutality of using a 3 or 4 foot long 2x4), perhaps quickly slamming the fall-board down on your fingers would be a better approach by your teacher.
Even if it were Valentina L., there would be no joy getting banged that way by her or any other woman.  :)
