Why are so many members of this forum so fascinated by threads called "X vs. Y"?

I just can't get it ...

God alone knows! (and for "God" substitute whoever or whatever you may choose if you do not happen to believe in God)...

I just can't get it ...

excuse me for this absolutely off-topic question, but someone could explain to me what is about this member known as pianistimo? everybody who knew him/her (it's her, right?) seems to have a deep impression carved out...
btw the thing that picked up my attention upon pianistimo was the signature of thalbergmad... rather strange get up to that point...  ;D
sorry and thanks for any answer.

People usually post these X vs Y threads because they have not completely formulated their opinions on the variables. Usually the comparison is a useless, what is harder, what is faster etc. Some people generate their opinion of music with these flippant measuring sticks.

Knowing a piece is harder or faster or louder or more orgasmic etc, it simply does not help you out, and it literally wastes your time trying to determine. But we have to understand that not everyone on this forum are interested to physically learn the piano, a lot of people like to keep just to their thoughts, which is of course fair enough.

Jay:
Take a few minutes and do a search on her name and read some of the sparring that has taken place regarding her rather stubborn, unwavering (and to many, illogical) fundamentalist religious views that seem to have gotten up almost everyones' noses on this forum--views that she would inappropriately insert into otherwise intellectual musical discussions. Thalbergmad's motto is the result of one of these more spirited verbal bouts.

To her credit (and the relief of many), it would appear that she took some time off recently and perhaps realized that her missionary zeal was misplaced here on this forum has been evidencing more germane commentary.

hey gerry!

thanks for the answer! i read a lot of older threads, looking for specific information (or just for amusement :D), and i think i was reaching the truth about her. it looks odd some of her comments, as you said, relating everything to religion.

btw, i don´t know if people use to say that anywhere, but here where i live there´s a line: "politics, religion and soccer are not matter of discussion". (although, in the other hand, they are probably the most-loved discussion topics around here...  ;D).

best regards!
