why on earth are you selling it?!? I have a signed copy of his new Alkan Concerto from when I saw him play it live... but i'd never sell it. I want to get my Chop-God's signed too, and the Busoni Concerto CD... I'd bid on it if I was in the US...
Thanks.

Why on Earth would I sell it? Well, simple: I value money more than 'having' the CD? This could be because of a variety of reasons:

1. I'm extremely desperate for cash right now. (Not the case.)
2. I can easily get a replacement for this CD. (Maybe?)
3. I have multiple copies of many signed Hamelin CDs. (Yes?)

Anyway... I'm shipping worldwide now so bid away! :)

This was from a concert around 2004 I think... At the Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, IL (a suburb north of Chicago). He played the Vladigerov[sp] sonatine concentrate? Some Godowsky studies (including a break-neck-fast op. 10/no.1), some Liszt transcriptions, and a triple encore including Antheil's "Jazz Sonata". :) I think the concert was called "A Liszt Opera". I talked to Hamelin after the concert a bit about Sorabji, etc. and it was interesting. :) He's such a nice and interesting person.

More to the point....why the hell would anyone actually want to buy a signed copy? I have never seen this fasination with buying signed copies. It spoils the cover! and I really don't see why it's good to have it. I'd rather just go and say hello if the artist was signing cd's.

If what you store there is really "crap", it probably won't fetch much.

I wonder how much the Sorabji scores would sell for?
Now you're changing the subject from "crap". The answer might be "enough to keep you in beer for the remainder of your life" if you actually had any (Sorabji scores, that is, not beer - I'm sure you have plenty of that).

I have 2 Sorabji original scores.

That bloody awful Valse Fantaisie thing and the Fantasiettina, which i understand was the first piece ever printed by Bardic. The first one i got for nothing when a local library closed and the 2nd one cost me an astounding 20 pence from oxfam.

I would be interested if you knew how many were actually printed.

Anway, i reasonably expect to make a small profit.

Hamelin and Applebaum split up; he's dating some woman from Boston now. ... I gather the replacement is better looking than Applebaum, although that's not saying much...

Best,

Ry. ---

P. S. I ended the auction because it wasn't selling for enough... I'll wait till MAH dies.

His replacement is only *slightly* better looking. Hamelin seems to lack taste in women.

I don't see why you think he plays like a Midi. He doesn't at all. If he did, he wouldn't be as famous as he is.

Not always, but that Rubinstein Concerto sounded like 7 of 9 was playing it.

Famous is he?

He does play liek a midi. It works amazingly for some things, such as Kapustin, Strangely I like his Alkan cd's a lot, but live performances are not as good. His Busoni concerto is great.

Apart from that I can't stand his playing, and it bore sthe life out of me. His new DVD is just depressing to watch.

He's not that famous either. He's huge in America, but I will not comment anymore on that. He is heavily abused from most people I know, except a few who do love his Alkan. His playing is just boring, it's got no variety of sound, and it's just all the same no matter what he plays. Listen to that Haydn sonata! I mean where is the fun?

Yeah, what is with all these flame wars? People should just learn to respect difference in opinion and not try to impose.
