I need a LONG intro!
on: January 26, 2008, 04:25:33 PM
Dear Piano Street Members!

If someone happens to know what is the longest or at least one of the longest classical/romantic piano concerto intros, please let me know. I desperately need it for a skit. Thank you!

Cheers,

Teddybear

Are you looking for a long orchestral intro or a long solo intro, like the St. Saens #2? If the latter, then question answered.

Aa, pardon my vague question! I'm looking for an orchestral intro.

I was listening to final piano concerto (no.27 K.595) the other day and was surprised about the length of the orchestral exposition. I just checked it again and the piano doesn't make its entry for nearly 2 and a half minutes, which by classical standards is a long time. For later concertos, I would say off hand Brahms' 1st concerto has a very long intro.
Out of interest, what will you do with it?

Yes that's what I thought too.

You could also try the Busoni op.39. 4m35s before John Ogdon's entry.

(Might be a bit heavy-handed for a skit though )
Does anyone else here think the opening of Liszt's 'Orage' (AdP - Suisse No.5) sounds like the Gymnopedie from Hell?

You mean opening orchestral tutti?

Good thinking that man, piano does not start until page 6.

Cramer wrote some excellent concerto's.

Thank you so much for your suggestions! *oozes gratitude* I'm not sure which one to pick, but one of these will certainly do. I haven't listened to the K595 yet, though. I've never even heard the concerto. I was kinda hoping that Mozart would have something suitable, since it's funny by definition.

Out of interest, what will you do with it?

I'll portray a pianist who gets restless while waiting for their turn (starts reading a newpaper etc.).  :) I'm arranging a little performance that is a mix of music, poetry, drama and, hopefully, some fun.
