How are you in literature? pessoa
on: January 29, 2008, 04:08:24 PM
I'll list a group of names and I want you to tell me please which one(s) do you know and what did you read about them.

Here they are:

Fernando Pessoa, Ricardo Reis, Álvaro de Campos, Alberto Caeiro,
José Saramago,
José Luís Peixoto...

Anyone to talk about this writer's works?

português ou brasileiro?

i did read pessoa (reis/campos/caeiro) quite a lot, and i must say that i admire him very much.

saramago...well, i read one book of him a long time ago...to be honest, i didn´t find the experience anything of extraordinary (that was the time when people "discovered" the author, and everybody was reading all of his books). anyway, it was only one book, a long time ago... ;D

i´m sorry but the last guy i don´t know. i think i must do some research now... ;)

I read Saramago siege of Lissabon by Saramago and I really loved it. It made me laugh out loud a few times and it had a great atmosphere. Then I read the Gospel according to Jesus Christ and I had great expectations and I remember I got disappointed. This was a while ago. I´d might like it better now cause I was pretty young back then.

português

I admire pessoa too

Saramago is just the greatest living portuguese writer. I don't know if "As Intermitências da Morte" has been already translated, but it should be read by everyone. It's a master piece.

I've also read "The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis", that is fabulous, "All the Names" and others. I just love it. Saramago is very sick, he'll maybe stop writing.

José Luís Peixoto is another fabulous writer. I read his books "Graveyard of Pianos" and "An House in the Darkness". It's fantastic.....

I'm happy that someone have some interests in portuguese literature.
I would advise you to read: "All the Names", "The Year of Death Of Ricardo Reis" - to read this last one you must read some fernando pessoa information..., - and "Seeing", that is fantastic...

Thank you..
