Are These Pieces Suitable For My Experience
on: February 09, 2008, 03:02:46 PM
Hi, Ive been playing piano for 3 years now and I was wondering if I should learn these pieces.
Chopin Etude Op.10 No.12 (revolutionary)
Liszt Etude No.3 (La Campanella)
some songs i can play are
Mozart Rondo Alla Turka K331
Fur Elise
Bach Invention 2 part no.1
all i can remember right now.
I can also improvise on very high levels
any comments?

aww. I don't know. I think its like a jump. I played Fur Elise and Alla Turca about 6 years ago, and now, after 9 years of piano playing, I'm NOT able to play La Campanella (I have to admit, I made a break of 2 years, so its 7 years). But La Campanella is much more difficult than Alla Turka etc.

My current pieces:
- Clementi - Gradus ad Parnassum - No. 9
- Liszt - un Sospiro
- Mendelssohn - Rondo Capriccioso op. 14

Its a huge jump and i certainly wouldnt do la campanella. Its far too difficult for you and you wouldnt gain anything. The chopin etude could be usefull for training your left hand, but it will take you years to be able to play it at performance lvl.

the chopin etude would benefit you even if you are not able to bring it up to performance level but as for La Campanella, I would say no.

Playing La Campanella will probably cause injuries. The Etude is maybe worth a try but I personally wouldn't bother with it for a few more years.

*Practising* La Campanella will probably cause injuries.
Exactly! especially on a poor piano like the one I owned.
HOW you play is more important than WHAT you play. Don't stress between La Campanella and the Revolutionary. There are many good pieces out there with many levels that suit you better.

Yes and If you really want to play PAganini Etudes, play the 5th "La Chasse". I played it instead of la campanella, it is also good training and it really made fun to play it - AND its way easier than la campanella!
