The Balanced Pianist Summer Program
on: February 17, 2008, 05:17:36 PM
Hello,

I thought since summer is coming up (more quickly than we know it) and people tend to search for good summer programs, I'd post about a program that completely changed my playing.

In the summer of 2007 I attended The Balanced Pianist (www.balancedpianist.com) in WI. My teacher who teaches the Taubman technique started this in 2006 and now has summer programs in CO and WI. The program is a week long and students get a lesson every day of the program. I observed several lessons a day and there were masterclasses, discussions, and presentations from the instructors (both very accomplished).

I started having pain in my arm over three years ago and began retraining successfully with the Taubman technique. I have been slowly but surely feeling better. When I went to TBP last summer, everything seemed to come together a little more for me. My playing sounded better and felt better - I felt like I left with a brand new arm. It was the first time in three years that I felt completely pain free.

The best parts of the program for me were the daily lessons, the open and honest group discussions with instructors and students, and interacting with pianists at all levels. Some of us had never heard of the Taubman technique, some were retraining, and some were retrained.

I would strongly suggest this to anyone with limitations in their playing - not just pain but any technical limitations you might have. You will accomplish so much and leave with the tools you need to feel good and sound good.

Take care, everyone!

Wow, only $900 what an absolute bargain. I must ask my mortgage lender if they mind if i miss a couple of payments.

I think i will stick with my existing teacher. He is a miserable git and teaches entirely without any method at all and for $900 i would get a years worth of lessons.

Your first two posts are adverts which does make me a little suspicious, but I hope you enjoy your stay.

Wow, what it would be for "a couple of mortage payments" to total no more than $900! In fact, I wouldn't mind too much if mine were as little as that amount per week. Great place, Britain, ain't it! (not the way Sir Humphrey would have put it, of course, but who cares? - he doesn't, as he doesn't have to pay my mortgage)...

Best,

Alistair
