Anybody know what these two pieces are ?
on: February 25, 2008, 03:59:26 PM
This is a promo vid made by Estonia pianos that runs about 12 minutes before cutting off. It gives an interesting background on the company and the country of Estonia. Unfortunately, there's no time counter so you almost have to view the whole thing up to where these pieces are played. Sorry 'bout that...
Anyways I clocked it with a stop watch. The first piece starts at about 7:50 and runs approx 90 seconds before Dr Lau delivers his summary. Its footage of someone (maybe Lau himself ?) actually playing the piece in B major (vs the background music you hear up to that point). My first thought was that it was a Chopin Nocturne but it isn't. So....?
The second one is a orchestral/piano concerto piece that plays after Lau's summary at about 10:20 as notable quotes from well known players praising Estonia pianos appear on the screen. I know I've heard this one before but can't place it. For some reason it sounds like Tchaikovsky or Rachmaninov.

I can't see the timings of the video, but the nocturne-like I think you mean is the slow movement of the first Liszt concerto, since the video starts with the Liszt concerto, my guess the ending of the vid (which doesn't load here so I can't listen to it :? ) is the ending of the first Liszt concerto.

Never mind. I found out what they are. You're right about the Liszt slow movement. But the one at the end is variation #18 from Rach Variations on a theme by Paganini. I knew it was something obvious. Just having a senior moment.
