Moondog, the composer, does anyone know him?
on: March 02, 2008, 10:51:25 PM
I just found out this very special guy yesterday.

He was born as Louis Thomas Hardin in Marysville, Kansas in 1916 and he died in Münster, Germany in 1999. He composed amazing tonal contrapuntal music with jazzy rhythm, influenced by the music of the Indians.

Quote from an Interview with Cole Gagne:

...even Tallis and Frescobaldi and Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, they're all full of mistakes. I have to turn the radio off - I can't stand it, what they're doing to my ears, you know? Unbelievable mistakes, what they're doing. You'd think the farther back you'd go, the better it would be, but it's not. Even back in the 14th, 15th centuries, the same mistakes.

(Sorry, I tried to create direct links to the interview and to the biography, but it didn't work)

plus some music of him on youtube:

If it doesn't work - try something different!

Yes!  Moondog!

I have heard of him.  I saw a recording by him once.  Baroque style music.  Something about him not caring that Baroque style was long dead.  He was going to write more great works in that style.

Fomr the 1970's I think.  A Hippy too if I remember....

Unique name anyway.  I wasn't impressed by the music.

Go Moondog!  Go Moondog!  *raised roof for Moondog in Baroque style*

That lament link sounds a lot more active than what I remember.  Maybe I heard some early Moondog.
