I want to play a Prokofiev piece in a competition that requires a piece from a 20th century composer. Most probably I'll play from either the Vision Fugitives or from the Sarcasms. I guess in general, the Vision Fugitives are easier than the Sarcasms. But, my question is... which is more appropriate and better for a competition?

What about the Third Piano Sonata? It's not too long and only 1 mvt.

The third piano sonata is also an enormous pain in the ass. How much time do you have?

Third sonata is way over the visions fugitives or the sarcasms. In worse case he should choose the first one ...

I don't wanna play a sonata. I haven't played any Prokofiev before so I want to get introduced to his style first through something other than a sonata. And about the time I have it is about 3 months

hey Khaled!!
i love prokofieff's Op.4 No.4.
but a couple of fugitive visions is a very good idea too i think.
i played Op.22 No. 10, 14 and 17. ... a good set for a contest maybe..

They are:
Ridicolosamente
Feroce
Poetico

bye!
Learning:

Chopin Polonaise Op. 53
Brahms Op. 79 No. 2
Rachmaninoff Op. 16 No. 4 and 5

I personally think the Visions Fugitives are more interesting than the Sarcasms.

I played the Sarcasms recently, and the audience seemed to like it.  My favorites were the 1st, 3rd, and 5th.
When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do.
