Or is everyone out there just working in pain?
on: March 11, 2008, 01:31:52 AM
I wonder how true that is.  Everyone just keeps pushing themselves all the time, to the point that it hurts.  Maybe that's expected.  Work, work, work and hurt, hurt, hurt, but don't complain because everyone else is doing the same thing anyway.

Sounds like you need a break, or at least try to cut down a bit.

Work is a pain.

But if you do not work in some way, life is pointless.

Sometimes we are pushed for our work.
This is good, as it makes us appreciate the "not so hard times".
If God really exists, then why haven't I got more fingers?

Haha... Well said pies.    (Bob glances around suspiciously and covers his moobs.)

I want to cut down.  I'm trapped.  Stuck.  And have to go through it again tonight.  I'm just procrastinating wandering around here.

Maybe I'll work for 30 minutes, take a 30 minute break, and repeat.  I hate that feeling like I'm beating a dead horse, and the dead horse is me.  Pushing myself.  This is the down time from hyping things up for the past few days.  I'll be like the runner, puking and tripping over the finish line I guess.

(Actually, they're pecs.  I've been working out.  8))

I have been wondering if maybe I should just give it up and start appreciating those not-so-hard times a lot more.  That doesn't sound like such a bad idea.

no pain no gain

That's as untrue as it could be. Pain is a warning signal for doing something wrong. Besides the pain it will bring nothing good. Just more pain.
If it doesn't work - try something different!

Let's see, I'm a full-time graduate student.  I have a full assistantship, which means I have to teach four classes, each of which meets twice a week.  I also play the organ at a 1200 member church, where I'm responsible for playing two services on Sundays in addition to accompanying a chancel choir, a senior choir, a youth choir, and two children's choirs.

This week is my spring break and I have rehearsals on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights.  On Sunday night I have to play for the Easter cantata.  Next week I have to play at 12 o clock services Monday through Friday for Holy Week, in addition to playing the evening services for Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday.  The chancel choir is giving a concert on the night of Easter, for which I will be accompanying them.

In addition to all of this, I have to find time to practice and to do school work, so that I can keep my grades up. I'm always very busy, but nobody is forcing me to do anything.  I do it because I want to.  I can honestly say that I enjoy each activity--that doesn't mean it's easy for me, but I do enjoy it.

I've learned to manage my time efficiently so that I can take care of what I need to do, and still have time to relax and enjoy the company of friends.

It'd be easier if my parents could help me pay for school and provide me with financial support, but they really can't since my dad only has a HS diploma and my mom never finished HS.

So I have to make a living doing something, right?

So that's a "yes" on the 'suck it up and deal with it part."  Physical pain and mental zoning out are very motivating though.
