a few questions
on: March 29, 2008, 11:04:40 AM
yeah i've been playing the goldberg variations for about 2 months now and i'm have problems with coordinating my 2 hands properly especially when playing the variations with cross hand patterns. is it really hard to coordinate when u cross ur hands? and another problem with me is that when i'm starting on a new piece, i may hit a wrong note when i'm actually aware of which key i'm supposed to hit. is it really that hard to hit the correct note or is it just my incompetence.

I'm also working on the Goldbergs, but I can't really help you because I haven't gotten to any of the 2-manual variations yet. But yes, I imagine they're quite difficult because you're doing something Bach never expected you to do! (Unless you're talking about that one little cross-hands spot in Var 1.)
As for your second question, even great pianists make mistakes. What you have to watch out for is if you keep making the
same
mistake. Then you really do need to stop and fix it. Other than that, a wrong note here or there, I wouldn't obsess about it.
