comparison of standards
on: April 08, 2008, 05:29:07 PM
Can anyone help me to decide on how the John W, Schaum piano course compares with the Associated Board syllabus? I have been teaching as far as the purple book which is supposed to be grade 2 but it seems to me to be rather below the Ass Bd grade 2 standard.

Although I'm not familiar with the John W, Schaum piano course, I would trust your gut. I've tried many different method books, but if I feel that the level is too low compared with the Boards standards, I tend to shy away from them.
Having said that, if your students are not particularly interested in the
exam route,
I wouldn't be overly concerned with the level of the Schaum.
