How to make your own forum?
on: April 11, 2008, 11:59:51 PM
Not to replace PS.  This is for another subject area.

I was thinking about one.  Like Yahoo Groups.  Then I notice Yahoo Groups displays your IP address which doesn't seem very private to me.

What else is out there for setting up a forum/group site?  Something free too.  I thought Yahoo was it, but not if they flash your IP number around.

I think this was asked before but I'm being lazy.

I also know other people have their own forums on this site.  How do you set one up?  For free.  I'm not paying anything for this.

Invisionfree is the best I've seen.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

Is it much work?  I was thinking just a matter of moderating, but.... there's probably more to it.

Do you have a MySQL database allowed with your ISP?  You can host it on your own webspace if so.

SMF can be grabbed for free.  https://www.simplemachines.org/

There is also phpBB https://www.phpbb.com/

You can search https://www.opensourcecms.com for others.

There is also https://www.yabbforum.com/

Seach for flat file forums as an alternative if you are not allowed a database.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Complete on its own.  I have nothing and want nothing.  I don't want to pay anything.

And no work either.  :)   (Bob is lazy.)

I'm just wondering if it's possible.  I was thinking I would set something up for another group, but that may not happen now.  I'm still interested though.
