It's the Little Things
on: April 23, 2008, 02:19:11 PM
What little things annoy the living daylights out of you? I am quite the cynic this morning.

Being ignored.  Big time for that one.  I've had a few times where people, adults, have done that to me when I'm in the room or standing right next to them.  A kid I can kind of understand and that's a little different, but still weird.  Having adult do that is just odd and very rude.  Having someone talk negatively about you to someone else right in front of you.  And having someone just flat out ignore you, like when you speak to them, and they continue on like you're not there.  That I would say.  I completely lost respect for those people, one was a supervisor.

when women ask, "Do I look fat in this dress?" :'(

Correct response:  Why you look beautiful.
Incorrect response:  Big sigh, roll your eyes, and say, "Do you even have to ask?"

Which one will you choose next that that question is asked?

When I get really stressed (as I am today), and haven't slept for a couple of days, I get really really really obsessive-compulsive about every little minute thing. It's really horrible. I can't stand people (well, any more than usual), everything has to be 100% CLEAN, and I reorganize everything that I own. Then, the only thing that I can do w/o feeling completely claustrophobic is either sing or play piano.

It's quite the tragedy  :(.

EDIT: Just to cover "3rd base," obviously, PS is okay during this "phase," as my computer is comprised of nice, right angles, and the desk is very tidy (hehe - because I just rearranged it. . . ). Oh well, at least I can laugh.

EDITING THE EDIT: " . . . me, me, me . . . I, I, I . . .".

When girls my age declare that they are going to intentionally (!) get pregnant because they feel the need to "settle down" (?!?!). When, my fellow females, have you ever stood up?!

Oh, and then there's the middle-aged schoolteacher who, upon discovering that you're a musician, has the nerve to tell you that you should get a teaching degree and just have children, because that's what she did and she's never been happier. I'm sorry, but I have no desire to harbor a little, squirming parasite in the depths of my belly (oh, I'm sorry, supposedly it's a "beautiful," mandatory process of becoming a TRUE woman . . .  ::)). Complete and utter, raw, organic, unbridled passion w/ someone, maybe I could deal w/, but this? Settling down? I don't think that "together we can do much more -" and I'm so sick of hearing all of this "family matters" b.s.

Obviously, I'm not ready for a commited relationship, so stop trying to tell me that I am! I'm 17 for christ's sake!

. . .  okay, I'm finished.

You know what that music teachers performing skills are if she's successfully teaching and has a kid now.  She might still perform, but actually practicing much is out the window.

Get ready for more of it.  It doesn't stop.

Actually, that does annoy me, and it's a big thing.  Giving breaks to people just because they have kids.  But that's been discussed in another thread.

I don't think that there is a "correct" response. . . .

Of course there is!
It's some variation of 'Dear, nothing could ever make you look fat.' or 'Of course not, you look wonderful'

:)

I get annoyed by people who constantly say 'I can't be bothered' and people that can't stop babbling at you and the 'short skirt brigade' at my school who wonder why they havn't got boyfriends because they always have their skirts so short, they don't stop giggling and gossiping and caking on makeup. If they got a boyfriend he'd probably be gone in a week.

And I get annoyed by people who look at the fact that my boyfriend and I have been going out for more than a year, and then say 'so when's the wedding' or 'the way you two are going, you should get married.'
It's not going to happen, I like kids, he hates them with a passion.

Oh, and I get very annoyed with my dad, at all times.

The fact that it rains almost every day in this place.

Said rain beginning while I'm outside.

People with no taste in music.  I don't mean people who listen to music I would consider bad, or that I dislike, I mean when they don't care, and just go with what ever's popular at the time, and basically get spoon-fed by the media.  This is why "artists" from all these talent shows (read: popularity contests) sell so many copies; people don't know what they want.

That ritual binge-drinking is a huge part of British "culture".

Bands that abuse power-chords.

Composers that abuse Alberti bass patterns.

People who listen exclusively to one kind of music.

Genericness of a lot of music from the classical period.

Emos.

Cigarettes.  Really, someone lit up next to me sat at the bus station once and I got up and moved.  They're disgusting.  At least cigars smell nice.

That's quite a lot of little things here...

People who can't use apostrophes correctly.

Books that haven't been properly proofread.

Publishers who change the shape, size and design of a series of books halfway through the series.

Why is it so hard to get leaf tea, and why are good teapots so much more expensive than good coffee pots? And why isn't there an equivalent of Starbucks for those of us who like good tea properly made and would like to be able to choose what sort of tea we drink when we're out and about? I'm on a bit of a tea-crusade at the moment after getting annoyed at a member of staff in a supermarket who looked at me as if I was mad when I asked for leaf tea... 'so you make a fresh pot every time you want tea?' Mass produced tea bags are the equivalent of instant coffee. They serve a purpose sometimes but they're not the way to make really good tea.

Drivers who do not use their indicators.  :'(

This was my first thought too.  Or you get the kooks who signal AS they're turning, do they even know why they're supposed to signal?

Books that haven't been properly proofread.

Speaking of books, I can't stand when they draw the characters on the front of the book.  Then every time I pick up the book I get an eyeful of somebody else's interpretation of the character and it distorts mine.  Thoughtless bastards!

Oh, and I've never had anything but teabag tea.  How does one go about brewing the leaf tea?

Recently I've had to deal with a not-so-little-thing on a construction site.  I could write a book about all the things they did wrong.  To make a long story short, by doing things in the wrong order, intending to save time, they've made so much waste.  Wasted time, wasted money, wasted effort, and everybody is frantic and frustrated so what DOES get done is being done poorly.  How such blatantly incompetent people wind up in charge I will never understand.
