C major Scale
on: May 03, 2004, 10:13:27 PM
Hey, I'm using this fingering 123 1234. When I play C major over a couple of octaves, my 4th finger get pushed towards the C key. This hurts. I've been trying to play the scale different ways, but I doesn't help.  This is a serious problem even if it sounds stupid. Is it my fingers?
Do anyone have some tips?  :-[

this is a stupid question, but are your fingers fat? or how else do you means 'gets pushed'?

Are you moving your body over to the right when your hand goes over those higher octaves?  That's what I do.  If you don't do that, you'll be in a very awkward position to strike the keys.

I just had a thought. Try dotted-rhythm position-clusters.

In case you don't know what they are, here's a brief explanation:

Play C-D-E simultaneously with 1-2-3. Hold this cluster while mentally preparing for playing the next cluster (F-G-A-B with 1-2-3-4). then make a quick jump to the 1-2-3-4 cluster. Do this over the entire range that you plan to play the scale on.

Then try playing the scale using different rhythms. Accent on every 2nd note, every 3rd note, every 4th note, every 8th note, etc.

if you need more help, don't hesitate to ask.

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
