I am supposed to play this etude in a competition, but I somehow feel that this is the most overplayed Moszkowski etude! I really don't wanna play something overplayed especially in a competition!

Don't understand your question. Why are you supposed to play it? Does the competition ask for it? If so, do you have a choice not to play it even if it is overplayed?

No they asked for a Moszkowski etude. I already play this etude and there is not much time left for me to learn a new one

I don't think moszkowski could be called overplayed, any piece. Of course this etude is one of the most popular, and for good reasons. They ask for a moszkowski etude, it's their problem. Do play it.

With the possible exception of #11 or #13 that are often performed, most all of these etudes are aimed at displaying one particular type of technique and don't leave much room for interpretive genius. So if they asked for it, then this one is as good as most any of the others. Go for it and show off that left-hand technique.

It seems like No. 6 is maybe played more than No. 2, perhaps only if one judges by the number of recordings one can find of them (I can't find any of No. 2... and lots of No. 6; course - I'm only looking on itunes...) I'd say play it if you like it. *thumbs up*

It is definately not overplayed , i was searching for a recording when i played it 5 years ago and couldn't find nothing... Its quite nice if you play it fast enough also.Suggestion : Always listen to the melody and keep a good and straight tempo ( fast thought) .

i think in general, the moszkowski etudes are not played in concert as widely as let's say the chopin, liszt, etc (obviously difficulty plays a major part here).....the g minor one is fun, and shows good control of the left hand (in 3rds?....i forget, it's been a while, haha).....if you don't have time to learn another one, and the g minor is polished, then go for it, since you have it in your fingers.....plus you can show off your ability to crescendo/decrescendo in a more technical song...what other pieces are you performing for the competition?

It is definitely an overplayed etude of his.
But who cares, it is one of the most beautiful etude. As long as you played well, it is OK.
In Russia, this etude is virtually played by kids when they are around 12 years old.
It is like the Fur Elisse of Etude in Russia.

To play this etude well is not easy.
