New . . . people?
on: May 04, 2008, 05:22:39 PM
There's a massive influx of newbies on ps in the last day - I think the count is around 20. . . is this normal?

Many of them speak in the same manner as each other as well - and use a lot of smileys. . . .

Indeed. Doesn't anyone realise that the IP can be traced? I also noticed some have registered at the same time (or around the same time) and went STRAIGHT into the chat. The first thing they'll do.

Some won't even post. Some will only be on at the same time as another account, etc. What can be done?

How can you tell?

In chat, or are you looking at the stats?  The last time I looked there were many, many people joining up each month.

I just looked at that stats page.  The new member count must not be working anymore.  In 2005, it looks like 2-300 a month was not uncommon though.

A day though?  Hmmm... How can you tell?  I suppose with the members list, sor them by date.

That does look a little strange.

I flipped back through pages of that stuff though.  Most, like 95%, is a 0 post count.  Maybe there are more now.  But I went back through last fall and last summer and it looks pretty similar, just maybe not quite so much.

I wonder if it's a bot program of some kind.  But why just sign up and leave?

It could just be new people signing up.  It doesn't look that different than the past.

In chat the other day, we had 2 girls in there asking in bad English whether there were any boys in there, and did they have MSN.

I had someone too in the chatroom with bad English who wanted to know all about me, wanted to chat.

Maybe some foreign country womens' prison has opened up to the internet.

Or maybe it's the Nigerians again, prying on piano people.

I see a few gold members in there today.

I bet they're just signing up so they have access to the music.  If you wanted to post, you'd sign up and then post . Why else would you sign up?  The print music.  That's why they're not posting.

Maybe someone should pm them and ask.

And.... Maybe someone posted a link to the site somewhere else, on another piano site.  A group of people see that, see all the free music, and migrate in.

That would be quite a bit of work considering how long it's been going on.  Each account needing its own unique email address.  A lot of work.

It's not really that difficult, if you set it all up properly to start with.  :-X

Lucylucy, Essyne doesn't mean you. I was the one who actually drew Essyne's attention to this matter. Don't you remember me talking about it in the Chat?

There is no way all of the many new members joining are related in any way to you. Don't get paranoid! LOL

That would be quite a lot of work.  Some of those are gold members too, so that's starting to invest money in the project.

Actually, that's HARDLY the way that I remember it - but I will drop it, as it's moot, and I don't (think. . .?) I have an ego problem. Okay, maybe I do. . . .

So ANYWAY. . .  ::).
