Help please. Key signatures, scales?
on: May 06, 2008, 05:28:18 PM
Hi, Im a newbie!

All of the websites teaching piano brief skim over scales and key signatures but they have no exact details or examples of them, I am really struggling to work out exactly what they are.
The websites only say "C Major scale is CDEFGABC" well duuuhh, it doesnt helpme at all. Do you guys know of any websites that explain what scales are and examples of scales or how i can work em out? And a website explaining key signatures?

Whats the # mean? I read that its a key signature... what does it do??

Also, any recommended Piano books that includes everything I need to know (Basics)?

THANKS FOR THE HELP BRUV! xD

Theres a difference between 'harmonic scale' and 'melodic scale'. But you could buy a Hanon book, it contains all the scales.

Dengy, the # in the beginning of the key signature is on the line that denotes the note F.  Therefore it is an F#.  That means all F's in that piece will be F# unless the sharp is cancelled by a natural sign.

Your piece has a key signature of G major.  G A B C D E F# G.

You can get a basic understanding of music theory here:

Do the theory part first (not all at once)
Then you can practice what you need to learn in the "trainer" part.
