I like microwaving bacon until it liquifies a good amount of the fat into the paper towel. The red is the best part hands down. I hate it when you're at a diner and the bacon is greasy and covered with nasty fat deposits that didn't do away since it was cooked on a pre-greased griddle.

Well, it could be worse and think of Kevin Bacon...  ;D

Smoked bacon rocks everywhere!!! Well, we portuguese are known for our smoked meat derivates. I don't even have the english names for the infinity of delicious, tasty, and very bad for health products: bacon, toucinho, chouriça (lots of varieties), linguiça, morcela, alheira... You gotta come here, taste the real deal, have your arteries clogged but be heavenly pleased! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....  ::)

There is healthier bacon that's made out of turkey or something.  Tastes the same to me.  Crispy too.

There's also ham made from chicken or turkey. They're good too and not so bad for your heart (and there's also a smoked version of both).
The other goods I've talked about are a bit different: something like a sausage but with other kinds of filling (some can be eaten cooked and others don't need cooking). It's quite hard to explain. You can find products like this in Portugal, Spain, Brazil (with some differences), I'm not sure if you find them in Italy. They're typical from mediterranean countries and other that were occupied by them in the past.

(I may say that I'm here salivating...)

A local hamburger joint, Murder Burger (actually, my town requested they change the name, so now it's Redrum Burger...) makes an awesome bacon sandwich. They pile on at least 15-20 thick pieces, and use sourdough/French bread that has been dipped in liquefied butter then grilled (slathered with mayo, too). It could hardly be less healthy or more tasty!

Of Bacon and other excesses

Smoke the fat aborning and thy days be lengthened wafting, as the proverb goes.  At once the luxury of kings and the sporting of fools, this indulgence offers honey to the former and penury to the latter.  If the fat calleth thee, in haste follow not its pernicious path, but for flavor's sake, which verily a wise ornament unto thee shall it evince; but a woman of its charms beware.

If I want to have fun, I'll play Super Mario Bros. while my bacon is cooking in the microwave. I'll at least beat level 1-1 and half of 1-2 before it dings that it's finished.

Then there's the vegetarian "fakin' bacon" or whatever... tastes ok, just don't let Avril Levigne find out...  :P
