New York Music Stores
on: May 23, 2008, 09:20:02 AM
Hi
I'm going to be in new york for a few days in July and wanted to know where I could find some music books. Which are the big music bookshops there, and which ones are there in the Manhattan area?

Also, I've started using Music Minus One editions for piano concertos, but my piano is not tuned to the same frequencies as the practice CD. I believe there are some CD players available in which one can change the pitch so that it is in tune with the piano. Is there any place in Manhattan where I could find such a player?

Thanks

Jc

Was in NYC six months ago and the great sheet music stores have all but disappeared.  Here's a great link to what's left in the city:

p.s. go to Sam Ash to ask about that CD player.  If they don't have it, they can tell you where to find one. Sam Ash contact info is in the above link.  Joseph Patelson Music House, near Carnegie Hall is not far at all from Sam Ash, so you don't have to run all over town to find stuff.

If you practice near a computer with speakers, just download the program called Amazing Slow Downer. It allows you to change the pitch, speed, whatever on any mp3 or other sound file you feed into it. I've used it for transcribing jazz solos and stuff for years.
