Celtic/Irish sheet music
on: May 29, 2008, 11:19:59 AM
Hello guys,

I am looking for celtic music. This genre has always had a special meaning to me and I want to play this type of music on the piano.

Also, if you happen to have some links or info on celtic music especially concerning improvisation or chords. You'd be most welcome.

MacDowell wrote some Scottish-flavored music.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

Peter Maxwell-Davies: an Orkney-based musician has an unique Celtic influence to his music. Most well known for the minimalist(ish) piece, "Farewell to Stromness".

I play, write and gig in this style.  Due to the folk tradition of passing music on purely by ear tunes often go by lots of different names and are usually long detached from the author, as well as there being countless variations of everything.

This site has a lot of tunes with harmony:

This site is more community driven but often lacks harmony, folk tunes are VERY easy to reharmonise though:

This BBC page is great for playing along with:

Henry Cowell wrote a very rare piece of music called the Dancing Irishman. It is NOT part of the Irish Legends, though. Henry Purcell set Lillibullero, an anonymous English, French or Celtic tune
to "A New Irish Tune".
earlymusician.weebly.com has arrangements and original English and Celtic pieces, as well as other genres: Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Easy music, etc.
