HELPPLZ Scherzo Killing me!
on: May 31, 2008, 01:08:20 AM
Well, I just started this Chopin Scherzo op 31 No.2  about 3 hours ago, I JUST got over tendonitis and it is still flaring up a bit, but I do not expect my teacher to have any sympathy really, since he never does.  Thats besides the point though, if anybody has any advice please PLEASE I beg you to help me, I have to perform this piece in the second week of august, and it is like 23 pages long, maybe I am exaggerating but it looks like that to me. Well I am going to include two music clips as soon as I figuire this computer out, they are very short, my recorder does not record well, so anyway One is the Scherzo and the Revolutionary Etude by  chopin I know there is a place in the forum for people to critique but they are very short and actually VERY bad because of my tendonitis ,I feel no point in  submitting somthing so bad, "Reminder I JUST started the Scherzo, and the Etude I have been playing for a month now and is almost finished I need to play them both in august, please give advice on how I can finish this piece quickly now that my tendonitis may flare up I keep pausing because of the pain, and playing wrong choords. ugh. sorry im ranting now.
  a million thanks in advance!

If you're feeling pain you should stop playing and rest.  No questions.  Instead you can concentrate on mental practice and figuring out what exactly you were doing that caused your tendonitis in the first place.  Seriously, don't ruin your hand on the revolutionary etude... too lame.

Why did you ask this kind of question? Is this a real question?

If you can finish Revolutionary in a month, you must be a good pianist. Your question does not corrolate to your background. Your question sounds like a person who have just learned piano for a year. In addition, you have to be realistic and honest to your teacher. If you think you cannot handle the Scherzo, tell him. You are not his slave that you need to be afraid of, especially you have physical pain.

when I said I did the revolutionary in a month I meant I had it by memory in a month, because  I dont count the acutal learning of the notes, actually learning the piece's  dynamics and adding my own individual texture is what I did in a month yet I havent yet finished. Also, I did not have tendonitis when I started that piece, this scherzo was given to me today, and the power I need to produce the sound I want causes me to flare in my left hand, and I simply cannot tell my teacher that , I guess I sound really naive if I sound like I just started the piano..well , im no beginner but Im not an expert either, I am just fast at memorizing ,  besides that my flaws are sightreading, beginning at random places in the pieces I have many more flaws... I am far from a great pianist, Im a great pianist practicing but a horrible performer ( Im sorry you're so angry because you think im making all this up, but honestly why would anybody make all this up? with what time??). But besides all that I am definetly not a beginner it would be sad to have played the piano for 13 years and still be a beginner especially when I had no gaps in between my music studies. Whatever I just need advice on learning a piece faster without dying. I am telling you , if you have ever had a really mean russian teacher you understand what I am saying, he has NO sympathy this is my senior year at stake here  in this music school and Im required to have all this done over the summer or else..no graduation

I've played both, I've played both.... weeeeee! ;D

And yes they're a true challenge, technically and musically.

A month is way too little time. I've been practizing the scherzo for about 6 months... and I still got a long way to go.

You must talk to your teacher, there's no point in suffering like that.

Sorry to hear your situation! By the way, I currently have not only Russian teacher, but I have Russian Jew teacher. My situation, however, is different. He wants my money, so he cannot abuse me. You are in a music school, and he owns you.
