very inspiring!! she seems to live in and breath music. totally honest with self and has most vivid understanding of music-artist of the truest sense. and of course she has the capacity to inspire many young artists ( note: but not mediocre students, as it can be disastrous, i sense ). tds

Interesting, but I hate how these people always try to get you to conform to how they think the music should be played. I would have told her to **** off.

hah..

she knows what she is doing and seems tough, i know. but try to watch the vids again now with an open heart. you should soon find that she is honest, highly capable and above all altruistic, despite the fact that some people can be annoyed for whatever reasons. but again, do we not agree that the essence of her teaching is all about music- and she was trying to guide or channel young artists to music and nothing else? it's nothing to do with playing the right notes, stacatto ( as in the 1st masterclass vid ), and be happy about it. but she says "to create an atmosphere"-understanding the mood of the piece as intended by the composer should come first and foremost.

a consummate artist, she has devoted all her life to music, and when she says "believe in miracles", she KNOWS what she is talking about. in fact when she demonstrates, i sense something so close to miracle than anything else. we need more artists like her. world is in extreme shortage of this kind. warmest, tds

If you want to find YOUR true way at the best you can possibly get, you MUST explore everything you can and do it with full concentration. Do it her way for the time you get with her, you might learn a thing or two, even if those things are about yourself.

At first watch I thought "what is this gibberish" and was annoyed... But you say to give it another shot so I just watched it again and I see what you mean tds, she DOES know what she's talking about and it makes sense.  Granted it's a hard thing to put mood/atmosphere into words, but I think she could have done a better job of it.

I'm glad I saw this though, I will have an easier time understanding this sort of communication if I come across it again...  Maybe my imagination isn't as strong as hers, but I have an easier time thinking of the interpretation in more concrete terms.  Not that there isn't a more abstract feeling behind it, but that the expression of it can be more easily described in concrete terms (softer, faster, overlapping, etc.)

That's how my mind works, when I hear something that moves me, I'm next trying to figure out what exactly they're doing to get that effect...  Maybe that's working backwards to the core mood.  I could probably have a better grasp of the 'poetic' view of music.

It could be that viewing things as poetic as she does is a step beyond.  When one already knows HOW to achieve any expression and doesn't need to think about it, all that's left is to work on the poetic image, the pianism already knows how to bring it out...

Also, this was apparently not your typical masterclass, where each student gets half an hour. They came and stayed with her, for how long I forget, at her house. So there was no rush and she could really go into every piece in a detailed way.

I think her approach to teaching is wonderful, as I said in my comment on Youtube. After all, by the time a student gets to that level they shouldn't need any advice on the technical aspects of playing. Before they can be a soloist, they must have something to say through the music and be able to really communicate feeling to the audience. This means getting way past the technical aspects of the music into uncharted territory. And that's extremely difficult.

I saw the  whole documentary on stage6.divx.com (currently offline) and it really was inspiring. She's all about making musicians aware, at least, about the sound they are producing and opening them up to more ideas on what they could do with that sound.

She's a decent interpreter, but she's a total weirdo.
