My life monday to friday.
on: June 14, 2008, 10:14:06 AM
I was thinking what  people do on a daily basis.

Ok Monday morning up at 6:30 am, I usually go straight to the kitchen and make myself breakfast,  egg sald and bread ect ect and most importantly tea, me love tea.

At 7 am I'm at my desk reading or writing essay for uni, at 10 am I have a shawer wear my sports clothe have a piece of fruit and of to the gym at 10:30.

At 12 pm I'm at home, rest for 10-15 minuts, make my lunch have another cup of tea and back at my desk by 1 pm either reading or writing essay till 5 pm, or getting ready for lectures.

At 5 or 5:30 pm I make supper, usually heigh in protien and carb and loads of fruit, and more tea, I chill from 5:30 to 6 pm.

At 6 pm Piano time for 2 hours, you name it Chopin, Beethoven ect ect.

From 7 pm I either watch TV or use the computer.

At 11 pm in bed, thinking about how the day went and slowly dis-appera into the world of dreams.

I'm not sure How long I can do this, but not for long I guess, got to start earning some cash.

What do you guys do, I is interested. 8)

The tea is about the only thing in common with my typical day.  A cup of tea is more than a beverage... it's your best friend for 5 minutes.

Waw do you mean, thanks that means a lot to me because I've had so many people including my own mother call me a no good piece of trash. Well actually I do have this one friend who has not a single bad word to say about me. To be honest I dont mind people saying bad things about me, but when your own mother makes you feel like your good for nothing, well you know a man can only take so much beating.
 thanks tds.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Get up with the first light.  Dive off the boat -- it's a 164 foot (50 m) yacht owned by my employers -- into Hanalei Bay, on the island of Kaua'i.

Rush the kids through breakfast to start tutoring at 7:30 am.  (Two of them, 10 and 8, boy and a girl, kids of my bosses, the couple who own the boat.)  Drain their brains for two hours, then take a swim with them.  Take the boy out beyond the pier where the surf breaks before the reef.  Nice, gentle waves for some practice.

Lunchtime!!  More tutoring for two hours, then unleash the kids for playtime with the folks.  I go into Hanalei, a teeny little bayside town, and hang out with the locals at Tahiti Nui.  Get a buzz and go down to Tunnels -- a famous surfing and snorkeling site about 15 mins' drive out of town.  Hang out on the beach, snorkle, check out the beached monk seals who are snoozing in the sun after a long night of feeding in the open ocean and dodging black-finned reef sharks.  Nap in the sun.

Get a ride back into town with friends.

Dinner!!

Go back to the boat.  Watch the great sunset over Makana Point, also known as Bali Hai to tourists.  Have a brew with the bosses, gossip, report on the kids' progress, yuck it up.  Go down to my tiny cabin and practice for two hours on my ancient Kawai MP9000 Stage Piano.  Work on some Chopin Etudes, that tricky, cadenza/scherzo section in the slow mvt of the Rach 2.  (I found , finally, some great fingerings that really fly!!).

Hit the sack.

Sweet dreams while I'm rocked by the boat.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

This too shall end and reality will return in September.   :'(

Zheer, I like this thread, I'm also interested in how people manage their daily lives.  What we make of ourselves is made day by day, hour by hour.  To waste time is to shortchange ourselves and what good we can do in the world.  Idleness can even hurt others in roundabout ways.

I've been gradually trying to run my life better over the last few years.  If anyone remembers that little philosophic phase of the forum a while back, it got me curious about what philosophy is good for, the best use I've found for philosophy is as a bunch of well-formulated ideas on how to live.  I have no use for the spacey-stuff or anything that I can't put to use in my daily life.

Funny, the whole thing started with the desire to become good at piano -> become more effective at practicing piano -> also become more effective at practicing life.

I figure a good routine is important, without it I fall into distracting habits, for a good routine to mean anything I need something to DO with the day.  Big things are good, I can set big goals and not have to think as I go to bed "so what do I do with tomorrow?".

Since the idea is to get good at piano, that sets up my days for me:

- practice of course

- peaceful place to practice means renting the apartment I'm in, making it comfortable, internet for distance learning so I can upgrade my math to get into university, also to read and find books/cd's/whatever else.  All these things were projects in themselves.  I had to spend two hours on the phone to get my damn internet working, mostly on hold!

- all this costs money, in addition to saving up for tuition so I can focus entirely on music when I get there.  So work takes up a lot of time, I try to be effective there too and have gotten pretty good at making money, and enjoying the process.  Another benefit to keeping the day full is that I have less idle time to spend pissing away the money I've worked hard for.

The better I use my time, the more I can truely relax without thinking in the back of my head that I have things to be done.  True relaxation is important, gotta have rest!  Some people I know who spend their time playing videogames are actually very stressed because they're neglecting important things, I see things stack up until that person is living in a state of perpetual emergency (and videogames).

Sleep habits and eating habits are important for energy.  I've struggled with sleep habits for a long time, the solution I found was to set the alarm early and get up no matter what.  After a couple tired mornings I finally learn to just go to be earlier.  It's become more habitual but I have to be careful not to backslide into late nights.  Eating before bed gives me a restless sleep, if I don't eat 3 hours before bed I wake up feeling great and my mind is alert for some quality morning practice.

So here's my typical day:

6AM: wakeup, listen to a bit of radio, breakfast, practice, coffee.
8AM: arrive at work.
2-4PM: finish work. I try to get away with 6 hour days by not having a long lunch break, no coffee breaks, mostly just working away.
-8PM: unwind a bit after work, practice, read, have some dinner, surf the net.
8-10PM: chill with a book, on the net, occassionally pop in a movie. wind down for bed and if I've done everything I'm supposed to do with the day, sleep comes easy.

Nothing too exciting, but it's pretty productive when I can pull it off properly.  Which is a constant effort, but it's worth it and it gets easier as it become habit.

Usually takes a few times before you feel anything, but buy a pair of sunglasses with yellow glass instead, itīs less destructive.

Let's see, this should be interesting:

5:30 - 6:15 - I wake up.

5:45 - 6:30 - I take a bath.

6:40 - I have a breakfast.

6:50 - I check my school bag, and sometimes I go to the internet or play minesweeper.

7:07 - I usually leave my house at this hour.

7:12 - I get on a bus.

7:18 - I leave the bus.

7:28 - I get on another bus.

7:37 - I leave the bus.

7:40 - I arrive in school, since I usually walk at the speed of 6.5 - 8 km per hour.

Now either: 12:59, or 14:50, or 15:10, or 16:35, or 16:50 I leave school, and I take essentially the same rute back to my house.

Now, quite indefinitely: I turn on the computer, I play either minesweeper, or Trackmania nations forever, or I'am on the internet, either looking for something about music, or chess, or weird things, and I also spend a lot of time revising our amazing archive of over 5700+ photos, plus some 300 - 400 photos which were taken by other people, and which are directly related to our lives.

Apart from that, I also play the piano, which is not much of a surprise, and occasionally I pick up the flute, to play a few melodies also. I also like to compose music, transcribe pieces occasionally, and I also like to write texts, mainly on the computer and with my own ideas obviously; generally they are written in a rather meditative fashion, but there are obviously exceptions.

I obviously like reading books and listening to music. And yes, in general I really can't stand television and all of those ads they repeat ad nauseum.

By the end of the day, I usually fall asleep.

Zheer, I like this thread, I'm also interested in how people manage their daily lives.  What we make of ourselves is made day by day, hour by hour.  To waste time is to shortchange ourselves and what good we can do in the world.  Idleness can even hurt others in roundabout ways.

I think creative people like us find it more difficult to manage our daily lives well. Most creative people don't do a 9 -5 job where most of the day is planned for us by others.

my problem is I can spend a stupid amount of time on my own, I'm not talking hours, days or weeks, I'm talking YEARS, provided I have all the things I need. So I figured with my strange "ability" so strange that even my sister thinks I'm insane,  if I only set my mind at achieving a particular task in any discipline I'd out-shine most people.

To be honest this applys to most pianists on this forum, we are not special, but we are different.

Usually get up at totally random times, depending on how late I went to bed the night before (if I go to bed)

Practice most of the morning, and drink a lot of tea.

I always go to the same cafe every morning to get coffee. Then do more practice after lunch.

Read, or do something in the afternoon...and drink more tea.

Practice most of the evening, then at about 10pm, see friends, play poker and win money, or sit up all night having pointless philosophical debates....then sleep.

Then do it all again....with some random piano lessons, and sometimes other music lessons. My life is not under control at all, and has no real direction lol.

Why do you get up so early? It seems to me that you don't need to, actually.

I try to get up at 6 and I leave the house at 7.25. I just take ages to get dressed, do my hair, etc.

I can't imagine what it's like for other girls my age bothering about blowdrying their hair and makeup and stuff, if I did that, I'd have to get up even earlier.

I remember my morning routine in highschool:

6:30AM - alarm rings, I turn it off and roll back to sleep
6:45AM - Dad wakes me up, "hurry or you'll miss the bus"
7:05AM - Dad wakes me again, "the bus just rode past"
7:07AM - run out the door and chase down the bus.
7:09AM - put on shoes.
9:30AM - wake up.

I don't know if it's just a kind of cultural difference, I bath before I sleep.

It's the most relaxing moment of the day, and I prefer to be alone. :)

It's not good if you wash your dog too often, or to force it... looking at you  ;D

"a person can never own a dog as much as it owns him/er", i read it in a dog guidebook somewhere. so true, my dog is happiest when she sees/looks at me ( naked or not ). do you have a dog? if not, go get one n bath with him/er- the experience may not be as relaxing as u imagine, but can potentially be more fun ;D ;D. and of course it's only a suggestion.

and oh..conditions apply :D :D
