Steady practicing habits
on: June 17, 2008, 12:28:23 AM
How can I develop a steady practicing habit with limited time? I usually practice about 30 minutes to an hour and can't seem to make the most out of it. Too much homework right now and I need to balance my time between these. I can't quit the piano now, although I've been considering this many times before. Help?

First off, I would say 4 difficult pieces is too many for 1/2 an hour a day. But others might disagree.

I agree.

That's the first thing I think would help you, to scale down the number of pieces you are working on, and you'll have more time to give to one piece, and you will progress faster.  Right now you're spreading yourself too thin.

I'm only focusing on Scirabin etude, op. 2 no. 1 and Shostakovich no. 1 prelude right now. I'll be seeing you soon when I have enough time. And that I mean never.

Hey, don't go away! Nobody ever has enough time. Which is more important, working on some really difficult piano pieces or hanging out here?

What do you mean by "hanging out there?"

I'm somewhat content now. I could finish the scriabin etude with sheet of course. I couldn't print other pieces right now because we don't have ink yet.

Don't mind me, I get confused easily. I thought you said you were leaving the forum because you didn't have enough time. Never mind...

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
