So, just got back from a job interview at a very upscale restaurant in town. I was going after really any entry level position that I could get. The manager/owner essentially told me that she really liked me and that  Iwould be the ideal hostess becasue I present myself very nicely, am an incredible speaker, am classy, and am very attractive.  Unfortunately, she's a little hesitant about firing one of the hostesses that she has to make room for me because it's the girl's first job, and, although she's really bad at it, she's new and is "getting better."

So I tried for a bus position. The woman really really liked me (we had about a 15 minute conversation about composers/random Musical stuff) and she really wants to hire me. But she's not sure about how the busboys would respond to "a beautiful girl who's their age" working with them. She asked me if I was into guys, and I assured her that there would be no problem coming from my end. She said that she was going to think over it, because she really likes me and she wants me to work there. She also mentioned that they had had one or two busgirls in the past, but they were *eyebrow raise* "well, you get my drift [not pretty at all]."

So, essentially, I would be hired if I didn't look the way I did. And this wasn't an excuse of hers either. It was a genuine concern. . . . It's kind of funny, actually - I always thought that being attractive was a plus, but because the sexually frustrated teenage boys who can't keep their minds out of the sack in the workplace would outnumber me, I may be out of luck. But I'm not bitter.

Essy, don't be a busser no matter how you look.  I tried that once back in college and I quit after a week.  It's a miserable disgusting job and the pay stinks.  

You are hostess material--the hiring manager should fire the idiot who's hogging your position.  

Find a different restaurant where they will let you be hostess.

  Your probably right Essy, I've heard that potential employee wont get a particular job because they may cause problem in the office. The only solution I can think of is work towards a career, that way it wont matter what yyou look like. You know Law, Medicine, banking, accountancy, Music ect ect.

Sue 'em, Essy.  It's like they're saying you're handicapped because you're a looker.  Sue them for discriminating against you because of your "disability."

(Say, have you thought about being a call girl?  You can make good bucks, and  work part-time.  Less work, more pay is always my objective.)

Word of advice - don't willingly walk into an almost all-teenage-male work environment. Trust me.

That's all the peer pressure I'll succumb to, though. I like being halfway anonymous on PS - then you're just a bunch of ideas floating around and no one really takes anything physical into account (ie the "dumb blonde" prototype/whatever).
