Fun at last lesson
on: June 20, 2008, 06:23:20 PM
Next week will be the last lessons I give before the summer vacation. Do any of you have ideas about what I could do in the lesson to celebrate the finishing of a year, but still the lesson being about music and/or playing the piano?
I've already done some improvising, but that's such a broad thing, I wish to find something, a little project-last-lesson-fun that fits in 45 minutes :)

(my students don't sight-read well so quatre-mains are allas no option)

How about trois mains? Have them play their favorite piece while you improvise an obbligato in the upper keys.

I don't know what trois mains is -
but I find kids really like it when you pair them up
and have them work on a duet.
You can also encourage them to work together
during the summer.  If they are not taking lessons for the
whole summer - this could help you too!

Check for perfect pitch. I realize that it's highly improbable that your students have it, but the test opens up a discussion about the importance of intervals, etc.

In my experience, students get a kick out of this five to ten minute ear training exercise.
