Yes, Euro pals, this is America's Big Phat Day: July 4th, honoring that arbitrarily selected day in 1776 when Britain was told to buzz off!
Ah, we Over Here (as opposed to you Over There) remember it well:
-- Margaret Thatcher in her first term as PM -- yes, she was in office THAT long.
-- Thal cast his first vote for her in 1776.
-- Tony Blair was a mere baby, but was already longing to play with the Bush boys.
-- Handel was dead by then, thereby clearing the way for Britain to shake off the German influence and create its legendary "cowpat" music (only to be sabotaged by Michael Finnisy).
-- Maul cast his first vote for Sen. Jesse Helms of North Carolina, also around at that time. Helms, who died (magnificently enough) JUST TODAY was that US senator who opposed civil rights, gay rights AND modern art. An American icon, for sure!
-- John Milton was long gone, I'm afraid, but all Americans know that "Paradise Lost" was actually a prophecy hinting at Britain's future loss of Her colonies.
PLEASE, please share your memories of this wonderful day! Let us Over Here know that you Over There still care for us!
