That is unquestionably true - and whether or to what extent one could say the same for other members of this forum, I submit that post count per se is about as important as the number of notes in any particular score - i.e. not at all. I think that we know the identity of the post count record holder on this forum, although she has posted nothing for some six months now...

I think you're barking up the wrong tree, to be honest.  Reger is a far more likely contestant, and i'm sure that we could find some 20th century composers who are even more appropriate.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

Go on, then, Thal - name me, then - and get it over with...

To be more serious, however, the number of notes in any one of Godowsky's works is of no more importance than the number of notes in anyone else's; you may not care for what Godowsky did (and why should you if his work fails to appeal to you?), but there can be no doubting either his sincerity of expression or the technical accomplishment within which framework he expressed his ideas...

This has, of course, less than nothing to do with post count here, so let's get back to that (if we must)...

Post-count is like weenie-size.  It only matters if it's the only thing you have and you need it to count.

From what I've seen in some internet forums, members with high post counts are somewhat treated specially.

The above started the off topicness
How so?

You wrote
"It is the quality of my posts that are important, not the number"
which is on topic.

I responded
"That is unquestionably true"
and added
"and whether or to what extent one could say the same for other members of this forum, I submit that post count per se is about as important as the number of notes in any particular score - i.e. not at all"
which is on topic as it refers to the importance of post counts.

I ended with
"I think that we know the identity of the post count record holder on this forum, although she has posted nothing for some six months now..."
which, whilst referring specifically to one forum member only, is also on topic, since what I wrote there relates only to the matter of post counts.

Even if you happen to have persuaded yourself to believe that any off-topicness has followed that post, the above demonstrates that there is nothing in it which is itself off topic and therefore nothing that is accordingly likely to spark off any off-topic responses from anyone else.

Off topic, no need to mention scores.
Were that really the case, any and all such comparatives would have to be deemed equally off-topic; the mention of scores in my post clearly falls precisely within that comparative category in my submission that, for me, post counts are of an importance equivalent to that of note counts in scores - i.e. none. May one therefore presume that, for you, any comparison of a thread topic to anything else automatically qualifies it as off-topic? If that is indeed your view and if it is commensurate with the stance that you would like all forum members to adopt in the spirit of remaining on-topic at all times, it would not be unreasonable to infer from it that the strictures imposed by adherence to such a discipline would almost certainly ensure that there would be very few posts at all...

Alistair

I'm not at all certain that this is necessarily true; having no interest in post counts is hardly synonymous with, let alone presuming of, a desire to increase one's own...

No one has yet come anywhere near equalling the post count record on this forum in any case, despite the record holder having posted nothing for at least half a year...

"Banji"?

Not that i am aware of, but he was presented with a banjo on his American Tour and apparantly was rather good at playing it.

'Banjos' would have been the appropriate word, although I liked the imaginative but incorrect 'banji' as well. ;D

I think post frequency, (if I may have the liberty to refashion the idea) to which
post count relates, is important to the extent that it shows that one is
a regular contributor on the forum.
