Distributing notes between the hands
on: July 16, 2008, 09:56:51 AM
Hi all
I wonder if you can suggest any trick or method to learn how to immediately know what hand will play what note. For example Catch Me from Schumann kinderscenes. When I see the sheet i'm not sure what hand will play what note and i get so scared by the sheet that it takes a lot longer to learn the piece but it's faster with pieces where its clear what notes are played by the left hand or right hand. sometimes pieces look very hard on the sheet but then you see someone playing them and they seem easier but you are still halted by the sheet and all the mess

Sometimes it helps to look at other editions, because some editions have the notes further apart from each other than others, or have notes placed slightly different so you can read easier how to play it, with what hand.
You can look at the stems, if they're pointing up or down, that can give a hint, but I'm sure youve done that.
For the rest there's nothing to do then just figure out what feels best, and as soon as you found a good solution to what hand to play what, write it in your sheet music so you dont have to figure it out tomorrow again.
Good luck!
