Ases Tod - Grieg
on: July 18, 2008, 09:32:27 PM
Today I started working on this piece of Grieg. I haven't been playing that long, and because of the holidays I can't ask my teacher, so I ask you!  :)

In the measure of the excerpt below I feel I can't play it completely legato with my fingers. I grab the chord on the second beat of measure 3  (right hand) with 234, and then after that chord I have to play G# with my third finger, while I'm still playing the B with my third finger. Should I just lift the finger and let the pedal do the work, or what should I do? There are more places like this in the piece, so help would be appriciated! I hope you understand what I mean (since English isn't my first language...)

Thanks in advance!  ;D

Please, I want to practice this piece knowing I'm not doing it wrong!  :P

I happen to know this piece rather well (there's a reason for that)...

Best,

Then would you please help me and explain to me if I should make this legato with the pedal or is there a way to play it legato with my fingers?

The answer to that one will to some extent depend upon your hand size, but the reason that I mention my familiarity with that piece is quite another matter altogether (which, if that makes no sense so far, is perhaps best explained in terms of a certain pair of works on a recording on the American Altarus label by the American pianist Donna Amato, catalogue number AIR-CD-9021 - go figure)...

Best,
